The events of our lives unfold at a breathtaking pace. We are given barely any time to pause or reflect. And we are confronted not only with our personal lives or the life of our community, but also with the lives of the entire world around us.
The media bombard us daily with the most horrific and inhuman scenes — some real, others subtly manipulated to steer our thinking in a particular direction. It is therefore completely natural that many struggle with depressive or destructive thoughts. A vessel can go to the well only so many times before it breaks…
This is why it is essential to protect our mind and preserve our inner balance, so we can continue to function in a world that is often unhealthy. A simple yet valuable suggestion is to follow the news only once a day. There is no use in fleeing from it, but do not open yourself to it entirely either. Watch it as a silent witness observing a film unfolding: with gentle compassion, but without pity. For pity disturbs your inner peace and weakens the strength you need to remain healthy.
This does not mean you are cold-hearted or unkind. It simply means you understand that you cannot save the whole world. Just continue doing good in your own surroundings, with the quiet attitude that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
With our best wishes for profound peace
